Depends on how much you want to spend. Probably the best non LED lamp out there at the moment is the Lightforce HID, which is pretty impressive.

Lightforce 140 or 170 - loads of spares/filters/mounts available - wiring can be crap but easily replaced.

Thanks Daz ,I've done a bit research and seen some issues regarding the crappy wiring!

Anyone have any experience with these LED CREE torches, are these good enough for 200-300 meters and how long do the batteries last?

How about an army surplus searchlight from WWII?
300 m at night seems an effing dangerous distance to me, as quite simply how do you know it is safe to shoot with just the foxes eye rods reflecting the light at you?

    Jonher,

300m is a pretty big ask for a 'non-specialist' LED lamp. I would recommend looking at the Cluson Clu-Briter. Retails in the UK around 50, has a very good beam at 200m plus and most importantly an excellent battery life. You can also get filters for it. For the money I'd say hard to beat and no lumpy battery to carry round. I've shot a fair few foxes under one over the last year or so and the people I've gone shooting with have been impressed with it in action.

The LF 170, despite the fragility of the wiring, is the tool of choice for many - good at well over 500m, but you need a battery with a good draw to get the best from it.
