    25.06 short barrel rem 700

I use a 25.06 and would like to order a new remmy 700 sps and have the barrel shortend as my gun is so long with a moderator on it. I would like to know if anyone has done this .I don't mind the slight loss in power as they are so flat anyway. But how short can i go .I will also fit and over barrel moderator. I will be using 115g soft point or partition home loads many thanks woodfordfallow

I had 26" remmy which was awesome, now use 22 3/4" blaser which still tops 3000 fps with a 100 gn bullet on a low load. Still kills deer as well.

I have a 20" in barrel on my T3 varmint which brings the T8 mod to finish about an inch infront of the fore-end it balances well and still has plenty of power for dropping fallow using 115gr BT ammo, only downside is without the moderator on its a bit of a handful when you shoot it as the muzzle blast is horrific, with the T8 on you can see the bullet impact so it cant flip up to much.

It wont stabilise lighter bullets though, I have never managed to get it to stabilise anything under 100gn (the 85gr ballistic tips i couldnt get a 3shot group on a sheet of A4 paper!) with the 115gr it will clover leaf them at 100meters no problem at all

I have a .260 rem with a 20" barrel. Like charlieh says without mod muzzle blast is harsh as well as noise and flame in low light.

But will put 3 129gr bullets in an 1" at 100m more than enough for deer.

    I have a 20" barrel on a .25-06 Blaser K95. My 100gn bullet load delivers around 3300fps and the 110gn 3100fps approx.
    Easily delivers within an 1" @ 100yds & smacks 8" discs at 400yds.
Not lab chrono'd, - but chrono'd at Calton Moor Range. It'll be near enough for me to work with! ATB

Thanks for your help seems like a 20 inch barrel will be ok.I am fedup with my long barrel with a huge lei mod on the end of it .Terrible for woodland and always trying to fall backwards. Then highseats very awkward.
I will be calling the gun shop to get this done. This site can be very helpfull.Good stalking to you and the other members that helped. kind regards woodfordfallow
