.243 or .270 variation on a two week old fac

thinking of putting a variation in this week, been invited out on a stalk, and a farmer on my permission has asked if i can thin a few out.

problem for me, is i only recieved my fac a fortnight ago!

iv done the usual, and filled 2 slots on my ticket for the 17hmr and .223 and been out almost every night, but i dont want to be tied in with silly conditions of mentoring as i usually shoot alone and like to keep it that way!

so guys, .243 vs .270 for deer and fox.. what are your experiences? id like to only ever buy one rifle, with the rounds being fairly cheap.. ~(im a yorkshireman..seem to remember reading .270 is 3.50 per bang?) but also big enough to take on deer in the highlands if i ever manage to haggle a stalk or two up there..

    cheers in advance..

hey mate id go for neither.
My friends all have .308's and so I went for one too. best decision ever made.
I would go for a target round. I think they are more accurate.
Im no expert but the guy I buy my gear off is. He is a boffin in balistics and we all use them.
Im getting an inch group at three hundred yards.
My bro has a 6mm br and 6.5mm x55. Thats also a good round.

1.25/bang if you buy 200 here

none of them are more accurate than the next
what deer do you intend to shoot?
do you wish to split fox and deer 50:50
you may not get "fox" on a .270 (then again you may!)

    I have both
I use the .243 for fox and roe
I use the .270 for red and roe

I use the same powder to reload for .243 and .270
you could use the same powder to load for .223 and .243

if it was my choice I think the .243 is too close to the .223 to justify

    get the .270

I bought a BSA 270 a couple of weeks ago, groups at a inch, with puu ammo 12.00 / 20, I have a 243 as well, only time will tell which I prefer! Both are good calibres, but the 270 for long distance deer should in theory be better.

he means a target "calibre" (or technically a cartridge) as I believe he is making reference to the widespread use of .308 by longer range shooters (or at least that is how I read it)
