    Reply to littlemisssureshot

For many years I have been aware of this site, and never felt the need to register, but having read (the now closed thread) about female Club membership, I would like to comment.
Do all hunters or stalkers need to be male? and why did such an innocent and open question create such a response? Was it I wonder, because she is Female and was in possession of two exclusive rifles. Surely the question we should all ask ourselves is did you answer the questions asked, whilst I feel sure many did with the best intentions, some tried to guide it into a whole new context.
I noted all of the replies and only considered a few truly valid, as I am based in Essex if littlemisssureshot would like to make contact, then I feel sure I can help

    Well done for raising this.

There's a simple ( if generalised ) answer - but given my expressed desire to see the language of SD improved, I find myself unable to couch it in suitably civil terms! Per theme on various of our posts, I feel that everyone on here - and I have to say Admin included - need to have a long think about what gets typed and the impression created.

Its not just about sexism - though the recent thread is illustrative. I appreciate every Forum goes through cycles and has similar problems, but that doesn't excuse here and now. This is truly a great resource and community - if I /We didnt believe that, the simplest action would be to just walk away. Look at our percentage of 'involved posts' to Adverts - we're not here for pure commercialism.

Maybe I'm just getting too uptight all together? But I'm hearing individual after individual say they avoid SD because it turns so nasty, because they dont feel they identify with SD members - and representatives of organisations indicate SD is 'just' a lion's den - joining would just be grief and no benefit.

LMSS isn't the first female joiner to have received a puerile barrage. The problem is not their's - it's ours! And my apologies to that member for hijacking her issue to voice all this.

I think it was 8000 odd members - how many are active? How many just lurk because of these issues? How many members actually post in a month? I will happily be wrong, but suspect the percentages are not merry reading.

It comes down to individual responsibility - I would really like to see a much more inclusive SD and those with ego issues just hold their hands up now and again - or go. I'm not suggesting everyone agrees with each other all the time - but does no one else think there's a better way for SD to be - both for the members and the benefit of the sport we are all supposedly joined to by shared interest?

I must confess that I never read the thread about female club membership, and don't know why it was closed but can imagine.

Do all stalkers or hunters need to be male? most certainly not, while female stalkers are defiantly in the minority
in this country, the ones I have met personally have been very good at it, possibly because they feel that they need to put in more effort to just to be seen as an equal in a sport dominated by men.

Unfortunately I think LMSS may have difficulty in finding the type of club she is looking for, don't even know
if one exists, know there was one in Yorkshire that I dealt with years ago , but believe it folded some time ago
    due to the logistics involved.

On to Moray Outfitting's post I agree in general with what he [they] say but this is a forum and the idea of a forum
is to discuss ideas and opinions no point in discussion if we are all going to agree, he [ they] say we [admin included] must have a long think about what gets typed
again I would say that censorship in a forum [other than self censorship] is futile and would very soon render a forum obsolete.

I agree that racism, sexism, and attacks of a personal nature should not be tolerated which brings me back to self censorship, we are all adults and know or should know what is acceptable or not.

Maybe a bit more thought before posting would be a good thing, and while we may well disagree we should at least try to be civil.

However I can be as guilty as the next person but I do have my own personal censor [my other half] who tends to tell me YOU CAN'T SAY THAT! but every now and then I manage to slip an odd comment past her. As she keeps reminding me not everyone shares my sense of humour.

I would agree that some of the posts that appeared in that thread were a little off colour. There is no place in *any* sport for sexism - and my experience is that women usually make better stalkers (more patient, more detail oriented, less inclined to rush a poor shot and generally better shots).

However, I would tend to agree with admin that the initial post was a little suspicious, and that the OP needed to make a proper introduction. My knee-jerk reaction when I saw that first post was 'wind up'.

I'm trying to pick words with care - because believe strongly that Admin have the right and duty to Administer ( hardly earth shattering I know! ) and Admin have access to other info - IP addresses etc. So this is a genuinely respectful commentary made in context of not having full facts - always risky.

Whilst not ideal in terms of including an ask within an introduction, I believe there have been much less detailed intro's that have sailed by without comment. The ask as such was not for stalking but for details of local hunting clubs - which I thought read as quite reasonable within the context of the description given.

In truth, those observations are irrelevant, because Admin has the mandate to do what it did and I support that right.

However, in a general sense - and I mean general - responses to female members/ would be members do not compare favourably to responses to male ones. Had a race issue been treated in the same way, there would very likely have been a certain 'drama' to follow.

Hypothetically, if the post in question has been made by a journalist, a researcher or an 'anti' has SD been painted in a good light?

I read all your comments with interest, and thank you Rimfire for the kind offer of help. I would just like to point out to you all, and apologise for not posting an initial introduction. I was new to the site, and did not realise that was part of the site rules. I sent admin a message asking them to point me in the right direction, and duly completed my introduction. I still for the life of me can not see why my question was suspicious, and my thread was locked by admin.
    Best regards to all.

'I am a 33 Year Old Female living in the North Essex area. I have hunted extensively in Kenya with my late father'

With the greatest respect it just might be because hunting was banned in Kenya in May 1977, two years before you were born ........just a thought!

That's the bit that caught my attention more than anything. Lived in Kenya for 7 years, so found that statement a little odd.
