Wh smith is banning kids from buying any shooting or field sports magazine. Think I'll be buying my magazines elsewhere from now on!!!!

The country's biggest newsagent WH Smith has banned children from buying shooting magazines, even though it is legal for them to hold a shotgun licence.
It is a sport enjoyed by thousands of children, and one which gained Britain a gold medal at the Olympics.
But children have been banned from buying shooting hobby magazines by Britainís biggest newsagent - even though it is entirely legal for them to own a gun.
WH Smith, Britainís biggest chain of newsagents, has banned youngsters from buying copies of country sports magazines after a campaign by animal rights activists.
The retailer, whose founding family owned a highly prized shoot in Buckinghamshire, says it has introduced an age limit on such magazines asShooting Times because children are not allowed to obtain a firearms certificate until they are 14.
However, sports enthusiasts point out that this is wrong. There is no minimum age for holding a shotgun licence in Britain, although children below 18 cannot buy or own a gun themselves and under-14s must be supervised by an adult.

It also states that this decision was made after the latest protest by the anti's

.....presumably then they will be banning youngsters from buying car magazines by applying the same logic that you have to be 17 to have a driving licence??

escort and fiesta were moved to the top shelf when i was younger, made me want them more

we need to talk and explain our ways to our youngsters, boys have always had a facination with guns, we need to make sure they get the opertunity to go and shoot one safely, whether in the field or down on the clays or even the air riffle in the garden.

it is a ridiculous thing for WHS to ban but if a large percentage of people stop buying sporting mags from them in protest, WHS will stop stocking them. What will be gained from that??

That explains why on Friday morning when in that store in Kelso and buying a Shooting Times the girl mentioned the age thing when she swiped the bar code, it must come up on screen with an age restriction marker. She mentioned it was 16 though??? I think I just scraped a pass...

She was also surprised and commented on that and asked why on earth an age restriction was on the Shooting Times!
