    30.06 and 125 gn bullet

I have worked up a very accurate load for my 30.06 with sierra 125 gn pro hunter sp bullet.
Anyone else using this weight for deer please?

What powder are you using for that?

When i had my 30-06 i too worked up a very hot load using 125gr Nosler BT's, now i know it was a BT bullket but it was just carnage! 6-8" exit wounds on Roe and 4" on Reds great for foxes but worthless on deer but you may not find the same if you dont reach my velocities (i cant remember what they were now but over published data) and with a less destructive bullet.

125g sierra #2020 pro-hunter is my favourite for 'everything' in the '06 around the 27-2800fps.

    Joe,

What sort of load are you putting behind a 125gr, I am looking to do some reduced loads so the girlfriend can have a go.

I am using 50 gn of H4895 which is just below mid range charge on the hodgon load data. I led to believe that the sierra pro hunter is less 'explosive' than the sierra game king.

A good friend of mine used 125 bt's in his bowers 30-06ai, 3400 fps. Its a very good killer, i wont let him chest shoot roe with it, but fallow at body shot ranges dont get damaged too much.

One thing you might try is the following http://www.imrpowder.com/PDF/Trail-Boss-data.pdf

If that does not work for you, PM me as I do not want to publish my data on an open forum.

hodgon publish reduced/youth loads on their website with H4895.
I loaded some with 125 gn bullet and they were a good soft shooting round

Thank for your help guys, looks fairly simple to do. As a rough gestimated, how much difference recoil wise do you notice using such a load compared to say a 150/180gr? (I am aware that recoil is a subjective thing and a lot is down to rifle/stock design, i am just after peoples personal experiences.)
