Here are his lines from an email if anyones interested. Extra is my dog
The first two Teckels into the UK were given to me by two European Royals. Rastus via Prince Ysenburg of Budingen bred by Uve Vogel and XyXy from Prince Heinricht Reuss of Austria. Rastus was jet black and tan, very like Extra, XyXy was wild boar coloured. XyXy had only two litters, she died of poisoning whilst giving birth along with her daughter Pickle and we hand reared the pups after a caesarean section. From memory there were only about ten pups from these two original Rastus / XyXy litters. Rastus sired several other litters with Garrick Hawkes and Nick Valentine's dogs. Rastus was a fantastic tracking dog with a ferocious temper if anyone other than me went near a carcass he had found. He specialised in airborne attacks at groin level and was famous as much for his tracking ability as his temper. I bumped into a very good friend who I had lost touch with for over twenty years. He had been a PH in Africa and we had travelled a lot together. After the immediate cheerful greetings his first question? "And what happened to that little sod Rastus? He was just something else!" Everyone remembered him and Prince Charles ended up with a Rastus cross terrier puppy.
Flint and Hannah were gifts from the Duke of Calabria and Marquese de Riscall of Spain. Both dogs went back to Austrian lines bred by Princess Alice of Austria. Hannah was a bit plain, a marvelous mother and clever tracker but once she'd had pups that was it, she was useless as a tracking dog. Far too dangerous and unladylike. Put her on a line and she'd just sit and look at you. Flint was a different matter, he was as good as Rastus which is saying something. He was also one of the best looking dogs I have ever seen and sired many litters, in fact Brenda Humphry of the Teckel Society reckons he is in over eighty per cent of all the UK Teckel pedigrees. Like Rastus, he had his ways and like Rastus he died aged twenty.
Maggie, Extra's mum, was from Barbara Opitz line. She is an exceptionally intelligent and aware little dog, very gentle and pleasing but very strong character. She follows a line well enough but has never had a really difficult find to sort out. I suspect that like Hannah, she'd rather be a mum. Rhum is related to both Rastus and XyXy and Flint and Hannah. He is a really feisty little dog, well built, very muscular and a good tracker. I especially liked him because he looked straight back at me the way Rastus used to with a "Now what?" expression, and this was long before I knew Rastus was in his line.
