As far as I'm aware burning plastic is a big no no regardless of what it onced contained

If the cans are from an agricultural source: definitely illegal. All plastic waste, including bale string, has to be disposed of to a licensed outfit, with receipts kept. If the cans are from private source: tough luck!.

Definitely illegal all plastic waste including silage wrappings and baler band must be recycled / disposed of correctly. Everyone should have a paper trail of purchase invoices and waste transfer notes after disposal.

Agreed (if its trade waste) not for domestic folk, but a farmer would most definitely be 'trade' so should have waste transfer notes for all disposal. I would speak to the local authority if it worries you.....

Contrary to s33(1)(b) and section 33(6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990

If its trade waste ie controlled waste it must be disposed of correctly and burning without a permit or exemption
    is not
agricultural waste used to be exempt but is now included as controlled waste
although we could overlook an occasional bonfire of clean wood, burning contolled waste is illegal legal unless there is some sort of environmental permit

You could phone the Environment Agency Hotline 0800 807060
they should visit and advise, warn, prosecute as appropriate.

I guess Lancashire must be some sort of farming nirvana then? All them saintly landowners and farmers toiling away for the good of the planet and mankind in general. You should nominate them for next year' s Nobel Peace prize.
