    .260 powder/bullet combos

    All,

Question in my mind has been sparked by another thread; what powder/bullet weight combo's folks are using in their .260's at the moment?
120gr Sierra Pro/N160 for me at the moment.

Current focus is N165 with 140 A-Max, 142 SMK, 129 gr Hornady SP

Have tried with varying degrees of success:
N560 with 142 SMK, 129 gr Hornady SP
    H4350 with 142 SMK
    RL-19 with 123 A-Max, Hornady 129 SST
    H4831 with 140 A-Max

Finally, H4831SC to be trialed in 2013.

Interesting you're going slower burn, I'm going to go to H4350, N550 and possibly N140.

Thanks, I would like to claim I had some method here, but it's more along the lines of here's a good deal on some N165. It's worked very well with the 140 A-Max and 129 gr SP. I use the Hornady manual to validate my picks.

Reloder 17 with 120gr BT's and 125gr Partitions. Same powder charge for both bullets.
    Brian.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......

When the 260 first hit the scene back in the late 90's my main focus was 120-130 grain bullets and generally the powders I used were IMR4350 or IMR4831 .
I have a friend that has a 260 that he sorta built himself . It's a Remington 700 short action with a Krieger 1-8 twist 30" stainless barrel . He has it lapped and trued and in a HS Precision aluminum bedding block stock . He also shoots the Berger 140 VLD pushed with a good bit of RL17 . He claims he's getting velocities better then what I was getting in a 24" barreled 6.5-06 . Anyway last sunday he popped his second Pronghorn Antelope of the season at a ranged 641 yards . Now I was not there , but this guy I've known and hunted with for years in Virginia , Maryland and Pennsylvania , and generally I've not known this guy to exagerate .

That is the combo I reload for on a friend's 260. His rifle likes 43.9 gr of N160 set 112 thou back with Fed Match primers with a max shoulder datum of 1.662" which gives 2680 fps. Damned if I can remember the rifle make - think it is a Steyr

    Something a bit different.

IMR 4064 with 140 grain Nosler Part. or 140 grain Sierra GK. 36grains seems to work well.

I am also trying Hornady IL's 129grains with this powder. The burn rate seems to be similar to N140.

RL15 with 120NBT and NPT, same load, same POI. It works well using Nosler Book 6 loads.
