308. 1in 12 twist

You should get to around 180gr think that's about your limit if heavier rounds are needed say up to 220gr you would most probabley need a 1 in 10 twist to stabilize the bullet, hope that helps.

Regards Al.

Berger list all their Hunting VLD Bullets up to and including 190 grain as suitable for 12 twist barrels.

My gunsmith buddy had a Remington 700 Tactical HB in 308 with a 1-12 twist . At subsonic I could stabalize the Sierra 220 RN out to 100 yards . However the sub sonic 220-225 grain expandable bullets from "Outlaw State" would not stabalize at 25 yards .

He sold his 1-12 to a friend and got a new one with the 1-10 twist today .

Thanks for all the advice so up to 190 seems the general opinion

Berger state up to 190 grain with a 12 twist for their VLD Bullets. Make of that what you will. Heaviest i put through a Rem VS with a 12 twist was 168 grain. The VLD are a long bullet but Berger know their onions so i think you should be ok. What may be a killer is loading those very long bullets to feed from a mag if you are limited to 2.8" OAL. They will seat so deep in the case as to eat in to powder capacity.
Good luck.
