What do you intend using the scope for?
    Woodland, hill, both?

Above say all you need to know. 6 x 42
Perfect all round, no zoom, no dial, no cock ups

At any given magnification a larger objective lense will give you a brighter image.
For dawn and dusk work this can be an advantage.
For many years I used a 6X42 but in later life mainly used a 3-12 X 56 or similar which was more versatile.

3-12 X 56 or similar all the time, larger objective lens means more light in low light conditions, you will shoot more with one this size.

It is not quite as straight forward as saying the bigger objective lens allows more light to pass through as the magnification also plays a part on the light received.

The following article explains it quite well. In theory a 6x42 scope actually allows the same light to transmit to the eye as an 8x56 if you follow this theory. However, by increasing the magnification within reason, the object being viewed in the image is closer so may 'appear' more visible.

    Hi Munty,
Can you explain how" you will shoot more with one this size" given that the exit pupil size of most adults, at best, is around 7. Please feel free to enlighten me.
    Cheers,
    Fatty.

When i say adult, i mean not a youngster i.e. over 30 not over 18.
