    Strange Red hind

Shot this the other afternoon, as you can see she is very small. Its not a calf, she is a yearling! Her legs are malformed but that is all, all her organs were fine. The Sika hind beside her is also a yearling, lets you get an idea of her size. I have never seen or shot anything like this before, has anyone? Al

I've never seen one that small. You think it was maybe a hybrid??

Good example of congenital dwarfism. Been reported occasionally in Reds and also sporadically in Whitetails in the States

Would hybridism have an effect/cause on this?

Might be just me but Certainly looks to be a bit of Sika in it, interesting photo's...

That is an unusual sight. Never seen anything like that before.

Very interesting, this really is the best section on the site, fascinating.

I have never seen anything like it before and actually didn't know deer suffered from dwarfism. I agree with the hybrid suggestions also, brow and coat look sikine but tail more red-like. On bambislayers point - hybrid vigor I would have thought would make congenital abnormalities less likely rather than more so, at a guess.

Sure looks like more than a little sika in it.

Are BDS/ anybody else interested in any blood from it for DNA testing?

In my scientific opinion I suspect that is a result of a Sika/Red/Goat threeway.
