260 Rem update - new barrel fitted

A quick update. I have updated the details in my Gallery for my 260 Rem as it's now wearing a new True-Flite barrel fitted by Forum member Grant Taylor in Dundee. Shooting it's a bit tricky with a cracked rib, but the initial results are looking very promising. Using my old stalking load with no adjustments of any sort, I got the following results this afternoon.

All three legacy loads are shooting well in the new barrel.

    Regards JCS

That looks a cracking result for you, congratulations.

I am intigued by the .264" bullet and its derivative cases. The .206 AI for one, the 6.5x55 AI for another. Are they any better than the standard .260 I have wondered? It is a fabulous round in any of its guises, I am very happy with my 6.5x55 and am pleased that your new barrel has turned out so well.

Thanks, it's early days yet, but the stalking load is good to go. I need to do some work on the 140 gr A-Max for a 500 yd shoot I have been invited to.
    Best regards

Looks good to me; so I hope the rib heals soon and you can get amongst 'em.

I don't find any difference between the 6.5x55 and the 260 loaded for a modern rifle. The 6.5x55 has a slightly larger case capacity but that's about it. I just ordered 1000, 120 grain BTHP's to keep mine happy for a few years...

Nice results JCS. Let us know how the 500M shoot goes.~Muir

Shooting at 500 yds at an F/TR target I had the following results for the first 15 shots I fired -

    4 5 0 0 0 4 V V 5 5 4 V V V V = 57

I could not see the marking of shots 3,4 because of the snow and shot 5 was just outside the 3 ring.

Thanks, yes this is the first time the new barrel has been fired on a range. I enjoy being out in the snow, but there hasn't been enough to let me dust off my snow shoes. Just white and wet today. Best regards JCS

Looks promising John - I have a 6.5x284 Savage that shoots fairly well. :-)
