    Midges

    When do the midges leave off in Scotland ? I'm going up next year and might need to get some gear ! Going up Inverness area .

    Not a real problem there
    To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

    The first cold spells in September soon put paid to them, a sharp frost is ideal.

    If you don't want it bitten keep it covered, Gloves and Head net.

    Granted not as many as on the West and North coast but enough to make life a misery at times

    Pack yourself a bottle of Avon "oh so soft" hand cream, you wont regret it, best thing for repelling the flying beasties and used by forces for years.

    Just put plenty on, its amazingly effective. Cost under 3 last time I bought some.

    May June bearable
    July August


    September bearable


    depends on weather and wind speed of course

    buy a midge net and a thermocell

    Get a couple of wrist sweat bands and spray them with midge spray of any sort, never found any that worked if your sweating hard, but that will keep them from your wrists.
