With the wiper going check the spline at the base of the windscreen. Ie the wiper struggles but the nut is going back and forward normally. The splines are alloy and can strip causing slip at the cone. Jim

Not a landy, but a while ago I was driving in light rain when the wipers suddenly stopped. I pulled at them to assist the movement and they moved very slowly. A mechanic thought motor, but in a garage they took off all the linkage and found it was solid. Wouldnt move at all. He heated it up, sprayed with WD40, hit it hard to get it moving, which it did then spent about an hour pulling and pushing until it moved again. He reckons the aluminium in the linkages oxidised, then it was all to much and just stopped. He also drilled into the joint to get some WD40, then oil in the joints.
Told me it was a tempory fix and will need replacing ... as I'm skint, I havnt and up to today it works fine. Fingers crossed for you and me .... Good luck
