wildcat pred 8 rear bush tolerance ..help

Hi. Should the rear bush on a wildcat pred 8 touch the barrel, or should there be a gap when fitted. Getting mixed reports on-line, some say yes some say nay

I have 2 and both have a couple of mm clearance.

Section 161 of the Highways Act 1980 (England & Wales) makes it an offence to discharge a firearm within 50 ft of the centre of a highway with vehicular rights without lawful authority or excuse, if as a result a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered.

You find very few barrels have the bore concentric with the outside diameter - unless they are a custom..

I always leave a few .000" clearance between the bush and OD of the barrel, the rear bush works perfectly well without any contact.

The moderator should only touch the shoulder on the barrel and the threads to be perfectly aligned.

Reflex T8 handbook says 0.02mm over barrel diameter, which is very close.

With a couple of mm clearance the bushes are not working. By the time the bush is working there will most likely be bullet strikes depending on the bullet clearance in the mod.

If the barrel bore is .020" out of alignment with the OD (which is fairly normal for factory barrels) and the bushing is machined to tolerances - say +.005" over barrel diameter, then the bushing will be tilting the moderator by +.015" at the bushing end - which is obviously magnified considerably at the muzzle....leading to the potential of bullet strike and its consequences.....

The shoulder of the barrel and the shoulder of the thread on the moderator should be the only touching components (aside from the threads of course)

The bushing is to prevent tilting only.

If, when you thread your moderator onto the barrel thread its touching intermittently (with each revolution), then it needs checking by someone who knows what they're doing.

Used figures as examples only by the way
