    Opinions needed on .260 rem

I'm thinking of re-barreling my Rem 700 .22-250 to .260 1-7.5 twist ,anyone foresee any problems?

I do like the sound of the 260, Why such a fast twist? It would be much more versatile at an 8.5 or 9 no?

The 260 Rem in my gallery has a 1:8.5 twist. One thing useful thing to do is to make up some dummy rounds with the bullets you plan to use. Some of the rounds I load measure up to 2.9 inches. If you want half a dozen cases to play with, let me know. Regards JCS

My 6.5x47 is an 8.25 twist and works well with up to 140g bullets, were you intending to shoot the long 160 grainers, otherwise a 1 in 8 may be more appropriate for 120 and 140 grain bullets

Do you have a special attatchment to the 700 ? As a rifle chambered in .260 might be the most cost effective solution !

.260 is a great round puts Fallow and muntjack on the floor no problem.

    I use 129grn Hornaday Sp

Think 6.5x55 when you think of the 260 except the 6.5x55 has a slightly larger case capacity. NO bolt face work required for the 260, though.~Muir

I bought my first 260 REM when they first hit the market back in the late to mid 90's . Out of all the whitetails I've killed in my life more have been killed with a 260 REM then any other cartridge .

It is pretty much the perfect deer round I think. For all practical purposes it is identical to the 6.5x55.

The 260 should be the default choice for the UK stalker, rather than the 243.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......

If memory serves mine is a 1:8; it is is bit fussy and took a lot of work to get 2 good loads with 120gr Sierra Prohunters and 140gr Sierra Gamekings.
Anything in between might as well be thrown by hand.

Certainly does the business, I have no concerns about the caliber being adequate on anything in deer related the UK.
