    muntjac season ireland

i was checking the deer seasons in southern ireland this morning, more out of curiosity than anything else and noticed that muntjac are now listed as a species within the season information table. the season is open all year round for them but it goes to show that they must now be established enough to consider adding to the species list. Not sure how long they have been on the list as i say i just checked this morning

no they are not established there have only been one or two confirmed shot and the details of those are sketchy , they are deemed an alien species and are to be shot on sight , with of course a deer legal calibre !!

If the current poaching boom stays at the current pace there maybe no need to include muntjac on our licence in the coming years. Glendine.

How did they manage to swim that far to get there in the first place Maybe plenty more are swimming over to ireland and will help stock the areas

If Muntjack could swim I would have them on my shoot, but I don't.
They are al over the place the other side of the river, which is all of half a mile wide at high tide, considerably less at low water.

Muntjac swim extremely well. I've seen them in the sea, and the estuary.
