Thread: 50 bmg reloads + powder for a 26" barrel

    50 bmg reloads + powder for a 26" barrel

For a 26" barrel what kind of powder is going to be best to get a productive velocity from standard bullet weights like 750gr?

Also, and this will test you! How far can you shorten a barrel too realistically using a powder bullet combination in 750gr that will achieve 2,500 fps at muzzle.

    cheers

You'll be able to take out a few trees with one of them Paul.
It's the calibre of the shooter that counts not the calibre of the rifle.

I prefer N170 and I have just made up some loads using Vectan SP13. I cannot comment on the barrel question as I am running a 36 1/2 Lowther Walther barrel.

What 750gr projectiles are you using? - The importer seems to have dried up on A-max's unless you know for some?

I'm afraid I'm unable to help with your question, but I think anyone reloading .50 cal deserves a high five!

Peter stopped doing 50 stuff a few years back. Even though it is still shown on his website, he is out of the loop. Still a good guy to talk too.

Definitely worth talking to John M, secretary for the FCSA, save reinventing the wheel re. reloading. As for barrel length Barrett are claiming 2500fps for 661gr ball out of a 20" barrel so may be around 22-24" for 750gr @ 2500fps?

I've had a lot of stuff from peter in the past but his service can be painfully slow! He's a good stockist though and has most stuff regular guys need, I can get cases and heads, actually got plenty, got proper press, dies the lot just the loading data isn't what I'm looking for. Oh, and I don't have a 50 yet but soon hopefully
