Thread: question for all 7mm users.

    question for all 7mm users.

    Hi,

the back ground is that i have been shooting 110gr Barnes TTSX fedreal factory rounds (for 7mm rem mag) and am very happy with accurcy bullet drop at distance and stoping power/meat damge. i have now been infromed that the round is no longer getting made and Barnes have removed the load from there website. i have a friend who can hand load rounds for me but i have a few questions.

The basic question is. What is the lightest 7mm bullets heads i can buy?

The second question is for any1 shooting a 7mm mag or any other high velocity round. Do i need to used bonded cores or simalir when the velocity is greater than 3500 fps at the muzzle? (tested 110gr factory at just over 3600 fps)

I had a 7 mag for awhile. Great calibre

What are you intending to shoot with it??????

I only shot 150gr or above.

    I used Hornaday SST;s
    Swift Scirroco's
    Accubonds
    168gr Bergers.
    Norma oryx

All shot deer and worked perfectly well and as i wanted.

Most deer were shot from 50yds - 250yds.

andy i use nosler 130g and 162gamax in my 7mmrem mag recoil is minimum with both h1000 and h4831sc powder and drops every thing i point the gun at why lightest head as the 130 in my gun dont drop that much very flat shooting the 162g are near enughf the same hole at the same distance as the 130g think bc and the right powder and you can get both rounds to do very similar performance at distance get the hevier round less wind drift 3200fps from a 162 g is still moving with a lot more thump at the end than a 110g moving at 3500 and the faster you push the light rounds you will use more powder burn the barrel out faster ie 1000rounds slow it down a little better for you and your gun dead is dead animals dont use fps the candle that burns twice as bright burns out faster i know i have not answered your qweston but nosler balistik tip are realy good in my gun if you want to go the usa road they use amax 162g to 1000yards on elk look up best of the west on you tube or the long shot shooter on you tube to see what the 7mm rem mag can do

I have started using 139gr hornady SSTs through my 7mm mag. super accurate and suitable for all you are likely to find in the UK.
I think you will be better off using bullets around the 140gr weight for your 7mm to reduce barrel wear etc.
pm me if you want the recipe I use for mine.

Interesting when Nosler don't make a 130 grn bullet in 7mm.

I'm puzzled by some of the other info. too which doesn't make sense.

110gr is an unbelievably light bullet in factory 7mm RM.
Federal don't make a 7mm RM load lighter than 140gr.
Nosler do 140gr bullets, but not 130gr.
Federal 160gr only makes 2950 fps.

Check the calibre out on their site.

    http://www.federalpremium.com/products/rifle.aspx

Barnes still have the 110gr TTSX on their website, and the loading data is still there too

In answer to the question, Sierra and Hornady do 120gr non-varmint 7mm bullets which work at 7mm RM speeds.
There's no need for bonded bullets, but these are available at a price.
If I'm going to be accused of it then it's just as well I did it.

How far out are you shooting your foxes? I ran a couple of my loads through the hornady online ballistics calculator, amazing what a difference a poor BC makes to the lighter loads..

Check out the energy levels once you get down range...

    Hi there

I hunt roe deer with my 7mm rem mag using 140grain nosler ballistic tip. Average velocity is 3360 fps. A colleague of mine uses 120 grain v max without any probs. If you feel you want to try hand loading yourself look on ammo and reloading . There is an excellent course on there to suit your needs.

    Hi

I shoot a 120 light special in the 7mm mag, Soft nose gameking shoots fine, low recoil, to be honest I don't shoot the big 7 much any more. I have a bigger 160 load for big stuff ( fired about 3 lol).
