How tight of a group was it getting? The 50grns seem to do better that the vmax in 40grn

I'm struggling to justify reloading for my .223, 55g sako gameheads literally are between one-holing and cloverleafing. at £16.50 a box, almost not worth bothering reloading either..it pains me! LOL.

Oh lets not get into group size discussions!....
    small enough!

as for 40 vs 50gr I dont see the point of going below 50gr
the trajectory difference is negligible but the energy difference on the lighter bullet is significant especially out past 150-200yds
not to mention the heavier bullet is always going to work better against the wind

I have actually gone up to 52gr from 50gr and recently trialled some 60gr SP with good results

I only reload as it is cheaper!!

    factory boxes are still over £16 for 20 - 80p a round
    I can get 100 52gr AMax for £20, 22gr of N133 is about 10.5p, 3p primer - 33p a round

and you dont get the same choices of ammo

I'm the same I shoot sako 55g gameheads in my 223 and they are so accurate I will only use them now.

I tried some factory ammo not so long ago was using Norma 50gr vmax heads group was ok about 3 rounds inside 50p coin.

Then reloaded some Norma brass same head and powder wait and was putting 3 rounds all touching. I find with reloading you can check double check and check again to be 100% happy that its all spot on.
plus as above its much cheaper to do it yourself.

    Craig

I find that PPU 50grn soft point is as good as it gets for Fox in my 20" barreled Remington, so until I run out of my present stock of PPU, the empty .222 brass will stay in the tray until then.
When I bought my PPU .222 they were only £8 a box of 20, they are now about £12 so they must be catching on !!

Hi I also normally reload for 222 but recently picked up 3 boxes of RWS 50 grain T-mantel SP very cheap from a bankrupcy auction. I had herd that these bullets were good but was surprised to get 5 shot groups well under an inch at 100 meters the best 2 being 0.5095" and 0.3238" centre to centre. I have also tried S&B 50 grain SP which grouped around an inch at 100 meters.
