    silencer explosion

i brought a new roedale segmented silencer to go on my .243 tikka and thought it was great due to it being so small , light and quiet. however , a chap i go lamping with had the same mod on his tikka .270 and after about 50 shots he said he fired a shot only to hear a loud bang and see half of his silencer flying down the feild. after this happend he sent it back and got another silencer of a differant make to replace it. we just put it down to it being a fualty mod but about a month later i shot a fox and also had half of my silencer go flying 50 yard down the feild. the silencers are segmented and came apart between segments . Anyway , i now have a new Jet-Z silencer and havnt experianced any problems with it. has anyone else had any trouble with roedale mods ??

Thats not good mate glad nobody was hurt were they both purchased around the same time? I no somebody with one and has had no problems with them though myself refuse to buy any of his products, did you manage to take some pictures of either mod? be interesting to see some pictures of them to see if there is anything obvious.....

I cant say i have experianced something like that but i would think that your hart may have skipped a beat as this happened. I would say this can be dangerous to to the person shooting and might also do some damage to you rifle? In my opinion the supplier should with draw all those models and replace them for the clients

    Good luck guys

i didnt think to take pictures and luckily noone was hurt. it didnt damage the threading on the rifles as the part of the moderator attached to the threading stayed on the rifle , the silencer concists of about five segments screwed together and it was the end 3 that got blown off down the feild. when we inspected it afterwoulds all the threading holding the segments together had been sheared off. however , if twice as much threading was used this probably wouldnt happen as their current model is held together using verry little thread.

Sounds very similar to my CMM4 moderator minus the explosion of course......

My rhoedale constantly comes loose at the muzzle end and I certainly wouldn't recommend one

So was this caused by the bullet striking part of the internals, combustion within the mod itself or simply the gas pressure?

Would you have a close up picture of the stripped threads?
Was it the Alu ultra light version? Are you sure the newer versions have less thread?

I have one of the very early experimental alu mods, long before they were on the market and remember the threads got beefed up
on production versions. I am still using the experimantal one for all my deer shooting with a 308. So far so good.

In the past we had larger numbers of Roedale alu mods going through our workshop and never heard of one comming apart. Then again
I might not have had the latest version.
I'll be meeting Pete Lincoln from Roedale on Friday and will have a chat about it.

I seem to remember this happened to Roedinator at the Monmouth range day a couple of years back. I don't remember the brand of moderator he was using. Might be worth a quick pm to him.

I've had one for ages with no bother at all.

I have heard about delivery problems with Roedale, but never quality problems such as this.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......
