That caliper thingy.

I use the Hornady Lock-n-Load Bullet Comparator bought from Midway. It comes with a basic insert set of 6 aluminium bushes for the most popular calibres. I also bought the separate base that fits onto the other caliper blade.

In the instructions there is a warning that different bullets can have different ogive curvatures so they cannot be used to transfer dimensions between different bullet models.

I find however that ballistics tips and softpoints often have some wear or variation to their tips so it is a lot more accurate way to measure seating depth.

You are referring to a Dial Caliper or Digital (dial) caliper with digi read out.

You will also require a comparator - available from Sinclair, Stoney Point, etc
