Thread: First cub of the season

    First cub of the season

Got my first cub of the year in open play last evening. It was mucking about on a rock heap at about 8pm. Wont include the pic as it was hit in the head with 165gr 30-06!!! (perhaps a bit much gun) but I was stalking at the time. Waited 2 hours but others didnt show. Ground is very hilly and forested so I guess they will have moved on now. Foxes not a priority on that ground but I was interested to get it and about 14 days earlier than last year.

Anyone else seeing them above ground?

Seeing loads about and really surprised how big they are already.

    This was shot last weekend:

Then the next night shot a milky vixen on an estate shoot. Weird the variation on mating times.

They were right outside the farm office of one of your land owners, I think you can guess which one really wouldn't want them run over

Foxes - Plenty out on top now around here, one lot seem to be well on with red coat and black legs already.

Strange, the nesting birds are late and the foxes seem to be early this year.

Only real signs now are the canadas are all fully sitting on full clutches of eggs.

Small birds are holding back, cracking frost last night again, perhaps they know a bit more than us on the weather front
