Driven boar hunt in Portuguese hills

    Outfitter: Athina Hunting Tours

Location: Lisbon airport, Portugal Arrival / Departure point: Castelo Branco, Portugal

    Price: £1,650

Athina Sporting is now taking bookings for a driven wild boar hunt in eastern Portugal on the 26th and 27th of October 2013. The area has not been hunted for boar in the last two years and holds a large population. We will hunt as a party of 12 to 15 guns, shooting boar driven by dogs and beaters out of the surrounding countryside. There are no bag limits and no additional trophy fees for larger tusked boar. As these are entirely wild boar on unfenced ground, combined with varying levels of skill and experience in the shooting line, it is difficult to estimate the bag, but on previous hunts every gun has managed to shoot boar on both days.

We stay in a really nice local hotel, well used to hunters, with buffet breakfast and late bar, and we eat at a local restaurant - Portuguese food is very good and very plentiful! The weather in October will still be warm, so this driven hunt will make a change for anyone used to hunting boar in Scandinavia and Easter Europe.

The price £1,650 includes two days of driven boar shooting, airport transfers, full board accommodation, annual rifle permits, compulsory annual hunting insurance, soft drinks, 4x4 transport during the hunt and professional guiding. Rifle importation is straightforward on a European Firearms Passport and takes approx. 6 weeks to arrange for non-EU residents. The use of shotguns and solid slugs is permissable. Moderators are highly illegal in Portugal!

Additional fee for non-EU residents: Portuguese firearms importation permit (for non-European Union residents) £19 and Importation permit administration fee (for non-European Union residents) £55

    The hunt includes:

    • Organisational services to advise on and select flights on behalf of the client
    • All transportation on arrival at the hunting grounds for the duration of the hunt
    • Organising hunting permits, firearms importation and insurance
    - All boar shot - there are no additional trophy fees and no restrictions on age or gender of boar shot
    • Twin room accommodation in local hotels (some single rooms available for small supplement)
    • All meals, limited wine/beer with meals and soft drinks
    • Services of professional hunting guides

    The hunt does not include:

    • International airfares to Portugal
    • Taxidermy or shipping of trophies
    • Tips or gratuities at each hunter’s discretion

Any hunters wishing to extend their stay to include Red deer stalking, Fallow deer stalking or to hunt Mouflon can be quoted a price on request – the red deer stalking will be particularly good in October and we already have one hunter out on the stags after the driven hunt.
