    243 N160 75gn V-max load

    Attachment 28444
Bought some N160 and 75gn V-max heads from gent on this site and put them together.
    41gn N160
    67.45mm COL
    Remi 9 1/2 large primers
1st shot was to see where it went on paper.
2nd (3) to check grouping which was under 1" (well pleased with that)
3rd was after dropping scope by two clicks.
Very pleased with results and left it at that!!
Should add it was at 100m.

I would say your a bit on the low side of powder maybe run it over a chrono to see what your getting,as to accuracy its showing promise a bit of fine tuning should half that group, then try it at distance

Looking at Hornady data it should be just under 3100 fps with 41gn. Max load is 45gn giving 3300 fps. The grouping I achieved above is 2cm at 100m for a hunting load and with my shooting I am not looking to get any better! I will use it for deer during the summer plus foxes and then in August revert to 100gn bullets as they are better all rounders (for larger deer). I've only got 100 of the v-max so don't want to use them up experimenting and wont be looking to buy any more as 100gn is better for my purposes. I wont shoot small deer at much greater distance than 100m so not overly concerned with bullet drop. If I shoot at a fox I am not concerned if I damage shoulder meat!!

Well i use the same powder and heads that you have loaded there and i also think its a bit low. I am currently using 44.5grn N160 with no problem but i would work up to that load if u were ever to try it..
Always think before you pull that trigger.

    Bit low for what?
other than burning 4gr of powder more every shot they won't kill any better running 300fps faster
if you are happy with the group that is all that matters

i run my .243 100gr loads on 38.1gr N160, way off max (lee max is 42.8!) and deliberately at a lower MV for roe

Quick load gives 47.2gr of N160 under a 75gr V-max. My test loads at that showed no pressure signs at all, but run 46gr for 3185fps

Bit of a coincidence because today i have also been testing load which are almost identical to daw's.
75grain Vmax over n160, rem 9 1/2 primer and privi brass, col 2.640(sorry, old school on the dimensions)

loads as found on vhit website started at 41.5 up to 43.5.(still below vhit maximum loads but i am getting more cautious as i age) very good groups at 42 and 42.5 grain but at 43.5 got sticky bolt showing a bit too much pressure. so as always it is down to the individual rifle. I had googled this combination and had found plenty of 'advice' on a number of websites recommending 44-46 grain.

glad I didnt start at these.

Brewsher hit the nail on the head. more powder in the case chasing some imaginary holy grail of a couple of FPS more is the wrong path. accuracy breeds confidence and the fox/deer wont care if it was a liddle bitty slower.

I copied it from another website which stated it is a copy of the hornady manual
