What brand/weight of ammo does sako 85's like to eat?

I have just bought a S&S Sako 85 (not fluted barrel) in 6.5x55 and wondered if anyone had one and could let me know what brand of ammo they like?

Weight wise it's for roe, sika, fallow and red.

    Many thanks

    Nick

    Hi Nick

I have the same Syn/St set up but in 75, and the only factory ammo that I used was Fusion 140gr SPs which was very effective at a quoted 2,530 fps

Being a bit tight, I now have HPS-TR.com reloading that Federal brass with 140gr Hornady SSTs, and they are very, very good, measured leaving the barrel at 2,660 fps (my barrel has been shortened by 2", so a factory length should get slightly greater speeds).

Nothing has walked further than it's own shadow using these, and at £1 per round (using your own brass - £1.70 if they load into new Lapua) they make economic sense as well as I can get 5/6 loads out of each case

I've settled on this as my "one round for everything" as it will take anything from fox to boar with all UK deer in between

    Hope that this helps

    Cheers

Fusion 140 gr. great bullet. Won't shoot anything else through it.

Have a .243 75 and .270 85. Although different calibres both my rifles shoot the best with Norma ammo.

have tried Norma, federal and Hornady and the best results are with Norma.

give them ago if your using factory ammo.

Federal powershock 140 grain softpoints are the best in mine and have shot 70+ deer of various sizes with them without letting me down. The same rifle as yours.

Winchester, remington and ppu didn't group anywhere near as good.

Need to find out what 6.5 ammo Malmo stock and get Brian to let you try a few to find out which work best. Federal 140 powershock for my Sauer.

    Best

Fed Power Shok 140gr tend to perform well in them. All rifles a bit of a law unto themselves, but the Feds are quite consistent performers.

Thanks guys inc Nick M & Andy. I know Malmo stock Winchester (.243's favourite) and Federal Powershok (.308's favourite) so will start with Federal both and ask about Norma.

Mine is identical, except that it does have the fluted barrel.

It likes Norma 120s, and I've put three into 0.4" at 100 yards off the bench.

Last autumn it punched one straight through a red stag at 250 yards.
