    Lee Collet die mandrel

I measured the of the mandrel in the Lee collet die in .243. 0.239" compared with a new one at 0.241", not much difference perhaps, but the bullet is 0.241".
Dies are secondhand dies so the previous owner sanded it down.
Where do you get for new ones, Tim Hannam and the like I guess?
Trying to reduce the SD of my rounds, hence the check.
The .222 collet die is 0.221" and that I bought new.

    What SD are you getting,

For 5 shot groups for a lightweight stalking sako.
    Two years ago
    87gr Vmax, SD is 39, 12, 13, 11, 11, 32. The middle groups are ok.
    85gr Sierra Varminter:SD is 52, 39, 41, 44, 59. Not very good at all.
The above are varying the OAL from 0.040" to 0.020" off the lands, more accurate at 0.100" off lands, so not a favourable OAL.

    Last weekend.
    Sierra Gameking 85gr three shot groups:SD is 30 and 14.6. Second group was 0.656" C to C.
Vmax 87gr three shot group: SD is 14. Group was 0.829" C to C
Chrony was 5-6 feet from the muzzle, too close.
I was really testing a seating depth some 0.020" different from what I used to use. I was not trying especially hard for perfect groups as I only took a few shots.
First time in 2 years I'd been to the range so out of practice.

The Lee instructions advise that too much neck tension and the bullet opens the case resulting in inaccuracy.

Standard deviation is the average deviation from the mean for the whole range of numbers.
    When I quoted this:

I did not quote the spread or average velocities, but only the standard deviations for each five shot group.
Did you want the average velocities and/or the spread?

so the numbers above is the SD figure for each 5 shot group ?? 6 groups in total which shows your lowest SD is 11,
5 shots isn't really enough shots mate you at least want 10,if you want single figure SD get rid of the collect die get redding bushing dies and get your brass prep right.
I did a rifle for a guy a few months ago which had an SD of 15 by a few tweeks we got it to 7
