how to store gun on holiday while not stalking

I am going to be going up scotland for a week this winter with the girlfriend and the dog, while there I will have one days stalking. we will be staying in a cottage. I am planning on taking my gun up.

So the question is, how do I store my gun while not stalking? we will not always be in the cottage.

    Thank you

Depending on one thing and another, I'd probably:
    1. Keep the bolt in a bolt-holster on my belt
    2. Keep the ammunition locked in the car
    3. Keep the rifle out of sight in cottage, locked to something fixed or heavy with a security cable.

There was a thread on this back at the start of the year, BASC also published an article making some suggestions.

Take a look at the following post:

    As above.

What are the legalities of doing this? I was considering a similar trip later in the year.

Well the HO guidance states reasonable precaution so as long as the cleaner isn't going to come into the cottage and find a rifle etc then that's something. Personally when I am away I have a peli case, locked and a bike chain to either a big object like the rail in the bathroom, or secured inside my car then the case covered up. Always out of sight even when secured. I wouldn't recommend just bolting a rifle to bed and not being inside something.

There is not an easy answer to this, regulations say reasonable precautions, what is reasonable?
Considering visitors from abroad , must stay where the security has already been inspected and approved by the police, there is nothing that says Uk residents need to do likewise.

However in the event of some unauthorized person gaining access to your firearm you are likely to be prosecuted.

Have had similar thoughts and was considering a car safe that can be chained to something in the (holiday) house when not in the car: http://www.brattonsound.co.uk/auto_sentinel.html

Maybe put a couple of holes in the rear to thread a motorcycle chain and padlock for about £60. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165752
