    .280 Remmington

Just wondering if anybody on here has a .280 Remmington and what there thoughts are on the calibre?
Thinking of getting an old Sako 75 30.06 re-barelled and considering options for something a little different!

Both the 280 and the 280AI are ballisticly efficient chamberings that are being used increasingly by the long range bunch. Norma and Nosler (AI) brass available. Take a look at the 7x64 Brenneke, almost the same round, but the original euro version.

I think Border has covered it pretty well, there is also an improved version of the 7x64.

Personally I'd go with the Brenneke.

    What about a 35 Whelen - proper man's gun!

280ai remmington with 180gn bergers is a nice combo for target...

basically a .270win with better bullet choice / .3006 witha better ballistic coefficient / sectional density blah blah

down side is its likely that there will be bugger all ammo in your rfd though factory is available ...just

    I've built many 280's. Never a complaint.~Muir

    I've had 3 or 4 280 REM's over the years !

The one that really made me like the cartridge was a Kimber 89BGR Super Grade I got back about 1991 !

It would take a couple pickup trucks to carry all the deer I killed with that rifle .

When I first got it I used the old Nosler 140 grain Solid Base bullet and then later the Nosler 140 Ballistis Tip .

Of the 06 based cartridges I would rank this one tied for second on my list .

The 6.5-06 ranks first for me with the 280 and the 25-06 tied for second .

    Been there done that !

IMHO the 338-06 is a better alternative to the Whelen !

    . My 243 won't last forever and I have a 7mm slot. Is 280 a short action option? Where's my Ackley book...

Long action - think 270 winchester with a 7mm bullet instead
