For all UK deer I use 150 grn Sierra soft points with very good results. For Africa I use 180 grn Nosler partitions and I am going to hunt Moose in Estonia this Oct so I will probably use them as well. I have just got some 165 grn Partitions and will be working up a load for them and then I will use them for all my hunting just to save having to change zero etc. Hope this helps,
    Tusker

165 game kings ,less than 1in groups not excessive damage.might try the 150 sierra soft points as my local rfd rates them also

I have shot hundreds of Roe and Reds with the Speer and Hornady 150 grain soft-point boat-tail bullets.
I shot Moose in Sweden with the 180 grain Nosler Partition.

If you like them in your 308 then use them in a 30-06.~Muir

I've been lucky with all my 30 06's they seem to group well with a range of projectiles in the same weight. The lightest I use now is 180 grns for everything.
In my favourite 06, I have it sighted in an inch high at 100m with 180grn balistic tips. I use these on animals less than 150kgs. In this rifle 180grn barnes x's group less than an inch from the balistic tips, & this works great for animals up to sambar stags without any fiddling about.
In a double which is open sighted & kept handy (It can shoot fast & one handed ) when working bulls & stags of some species in "unprotected contact" its fed 220grn woodliegh's, but this isn't hunting. I think 180grn is the best in the ought six for hunting & this is what really lifts it above the 308 in performance.

Most of the "premium" projectiles are good & will work.

    Cheers Sharkey

+1 Or just keep useing your .308 . You won't be shooting boar or moose at long range. So why change?

I've used 180 gr partitions for over 20 yrs in the 30-06. It works perfectly for moose, elk and black bears. If I'm after smaller stuff I use hornady or speer '' standard " cup and core bullets in 165 or 180 gr. Totally reliable combination thats never let me down
