Yes normal postal rules apply - size and weight.

if its got some value make sure you send it insured. i have just been stitched up on some reloading dies. i paid buyer a extra £8 for them to be sent insured post and he posted them 1st class now its in a dispute with paypal to try and get my money back. all because he tried to penny pinch on postage

I've found it seems to be abut of a mine field , had 400 once fired delivered for Yorkshire for £4 the some from Norwich for £10 ????

It's a balance of weight, volume, speed and signature...

£4 could've been second class "pot luck if it arrives", whereas £10 was "Next Day by 13:00 Signed for"

You get what you pay for, and that needs agreeing with the vendor - as above, if you pay for Next Day Signed For, you don't expect it to get lost because it was sent via "hit & hope"!!!

Was that quoted Royal Mail/courier prices or simply what the seller charged? Royal Mail have standard pricing!?

Send all my stuff through Parcel2go usually using City Link as the courier and so far(touch wood) it's all been smooth enough

Royal Mail make it up as they go along, I recently posted two scopes, virtually identical, from two different post offices. One cost £9.00, the other £14.00.
