If the prize has no value then there is no customs charge.

If you were notified by Royal Mail, you'll be liable to their - if memory serves right - 8.50 admin charge. You are liable for that even if the custom charges are dropped, that's what they told me. Anything which is over 100 years old or manufactured in Europe and so to speak re-imported should not be liable to VAT anyways.

In such situations always ask the sender to declare the goods as 'used / secondhand, no commercial value', it never hurts to ask. S

    even gifts are taxed
anything over 40 or so gets hit with VAT and VAT on the shipping cost (how and why the method of shipping should be taxed I have no fecking idea!!)
then they shaft you for 8.50 admin

I bet it costs them more than the 8.50 admin fee they charge to collect the money. Why should be not pay VAT on imported goods? If we all bought everything abroad the country would be broke.

If I order anything from abroad then I expect I will have the VAT to pay and allow for that.

Section 161 of the Highways Act 1980 (England & Wales) makes it an offence to discharge a firearm within 50 ft of the centre of a highway with vehicular rights without lawful authority or excuse, if as a result a user of the highway is injured, interrupted or endangered.
