    Is a 308 that bad at 1000yds ? heres a quote from another forum " I use 44.00 grns varget,175 smk,win cases,fed 210m primer, 2630 fps , average group @ 1000yds is 10.5 inches , I have shot 6 inches group on a calm day, very rare at the range I shoot at!"

Can you get those on a short action?

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!
    Another 7mm08 shooter!

Be a bit of a tight squeeze. I had a look at 6.5x284 on my 7mm-08 predator action, it just to say extracted with the 140gn bullets but only just. They certainly didn't fit in the mag.. I ended up going for a long action donor rifle for the 6.5x284 to give me plenty of space. I think with the 7mm high BC bullets, you wouldn't stand a chance in a short action. Not so sure about the 7SAUM or 7WSM.. but imagine either a new bolt would be required or a bit of engineering required on the old one.

    PS: Im no expert..

yes thats pretty much sums it up for the short action

i m shooting the 6.5-284 out of a no4 sako 75 action with 140 and its ok but my .284's are both long actions the shehane is on a bat mb action and the .284 straight (which is now up for sale) is on a barnard s

Higher the bc, better the accuracy at long range apparently, in theory the 6.5 06 I am having made should piss all over my 308 at 1000yds
