Thread: Thread on an old Parker Hale barrel?

Thread on an old Parker Hale barrel?

I have an old Parker Hale in 270 that I'm considering re-barreling. It's in original condition. Can anyone tell me the thread they used on these barrels?

Give Norman Clark a ring in Rugby, they will be able to sort you out.

Yes he will but do be prepared to take out a second mortgage.

Now as the Parker-Hale uses a standard M98 action then the thread ought to be 1.100" diameter with 12 TPI of Whitworth form. This information was taken from the NRA Gunsmithing guide-Updated edition.

Could be a wide range, often based on the M98 actions - which themselves have a wide range, so it could be (Tenon length x diameter x pitch x thread form)

    M1938 - 0.650 x 0.980 x 11 1/2 x 55 (Whitworth) - FRR 1.41x1.81
    M1938 - 0.634 x 0.985 x 12 x 55 (Whitworth) - FRR 1.412 x 1.78
    M43 - 0.620 x 1.104 x 12 x 55 (Whitworth) - FRR 1.4 x 1.7
    M48A - 0.680 x 1.100 x 12 x 55 (Whitworth) - FRR 1.41 x 1.6
    VZ-24 - 0.635 x 1.100 x 12 x 55 (Whitworth) - FRR 1.4 x 1.695

But as indicated if you measure up the FRR that should be a good guide to the thread/tenon form before you actually pull the barrel off

PH are very unlikely to be based on the VZ (although they tend to be better actions to take the higher pressures) - we have seen PH using M48, 43 and 1938 actions, but not M1903, 90 or 93 - which are different again - generally 0.650 x 0.980 x 12
