    6.5x55 powder

Is anyone using H4831sc on their 6.5x55, and if so what loads do you find work?
I know there are plenty more powders used, but I am trying to keep the amount of different powders kept to a basic level.

    Many thanks

Today I tried a load development in my Howa 6.5x55 to see what grouping could be achieved with H4831SC, Lapua brass, CCI Rifle primers and some A-Max, bt, and someone gave me some Lapua 123gr Scenars to try (though not deer legal in the slightest......)

The best groupings I achieved was amazing with the Lapua Scenars - 5 rounds one hole at 200 yards, with a 6th pulled. Luckily I had a friend doing his bit being my spotter for the day and witnessed the days events.

I will finalise and fine tune my hunting loads for deer with either some Nosler or Hornady sst in the coming weeks now that I have seen the abilities of the what can be done out a sporter rifle with adjusted trigger and moderator and those Lapua 123gr bullets.

The recipe of the day was Lapua brass (no case prep, just out the box), CCI Rifle brass, H4831SC and Lapua 123gr Scenar, with 49.1gr of powder behind it.
This recipe was very slowly worked up for my rifle and if you do choose to use it, please start 10% low and gradually working upwards taking note of pressure and safety etc. - each rifle is different.
I think I may invest in a tub of VV160 and see what results can be had, and will keep you informed.
Hope this is of some help in term of loads to consider.

This was the result of a 4 shot test using the following recipe:
    Vit.N160 x 49.2gns, Nosler 120gn BT, Fed210 GM primer, Rem. Cases, OAL 3.051"
F/L resized, case headspaced at 1.772". The rifle is Sauer 202 Elegance 1-9.5" twist.
Haven't yet checked the MV but I think probably somewhere in the 2900fps area. It certainly looks promising. ATB

Viht N160 worked well for me, 44g with Nosler 140g

Get some Viht N140, I put 32.5 grains of that stuff behind some 160g Hornady FMJBT, and it eats them up! This is in my 1910 Carl Gustaf m96, I wouldn't recommend going any hotter than that load, it's taken me a year or two to get that rifle working well with my reloads.
