you need to take the barrelled action out now and again, and generously apply a good wax like that from trade secret, then buff it of course, but it keeps moisture and rain out. then after a soaking, you just run a few sheets of kitchen towel under the barrel to absorb and leave in a warm room to dry, not 'hot' room, just warm. otherwise, take the barrelled action out and dry it properly, tighten and go shooting again, if you tighten the action screws with a torque driver at 30 inch/lb, it will not change your POI.

As stated take the barrel and action out then use Cherry Blossom nuetral boot polish three coats then reassemble. You can use the boot polish to protect the barrel. action and telescope from the elements and if you do not buff up after application it will leave a protective wax dull finish that will not reflect the sun from your blued barrel scope etc.

Companies like cumbria htg do air dusters, airosol cans filled with compressed air and a nozzle, start at the action end and blow any water, grass seeds and debri out. works well with the advise above re waxing etc.
using oil sprays will soften the wood!!

As seen on quite a few shotguns, as a blackened area where the stock & fore end meet the metalwork.
