    Reduced loads

Hi i was looking through the hodgdons loading data and went on to reduced loads it was all about H4985 for youth shooting and targets of a range up to 200 yards, just wondering if any members have done any reduced loads i would like to hear?
    Regards Neil

For what it's worth, I'm curious about these too, if only from a theoretical point of view. I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experience with these - I have asked about them elsewhere but the question got lost in the mix...

Judging by the range of data Hodgdon publish, it looks to be possible to duplicate the behaviour of a .243 firing 100gr (or 110gr) bullets using a .308 - though given the provenance of the .243 that's hardly surprising. What I thought was really interesting about the H4985 reduced loads is that they'll allow you to duplicate the ballistics of calibres like the .30-30 Win. and others, which we know from experience are perfectly good, light recoiling, deer rounds also. Put some 130gr RNSP heads on the front of a reduced load of H4895 and I bet not many people would tell the difference blindfolded. If they were stupid enough to fire a rifle blindfolded, which of course, they wouldn't be...

I have. I shoot a lot of cast bullets in rifles for target use and reduced loads are the norm. H4895 is a good powder for reduced loads.~Muir

4.9gr of Viht N310 in a .308 with a 115gr cast boollit gives around 980fps and is a very nice reduced load

In particular, I am more interested in the .243 reduced load.

I shoot .308 115gr cast & 165 gas checks using viht 320 and also Alliant 2400 they both work well or you could try trail boss with cast loads safe and easy on the shooter.
