    Pre-war Winchester Model 70 .22 Hornet

Rare, pre war Winchester Model 70 in superb original condition with its vintage Leupold scope and Redfield mounts. You will not find a nicer example.
This rifle has been hardly used and has nearly all its original factory finish, bar some tiny marks and is a real sleeper. I think it dates from 1937 or 1938. The serial number is in the high 22xxx's. The rearsight has been swapped for a folding lyman type to facilitate scope mounting. There are some light surface use marks on the scope finish, but has perfect glass, with a fine crosshair recticle.
Great opportunity to purchase an iconic rifle in a sought after calibre. Only for sale as its too special a rifle for rough shooting and it would be butchery to thread it for a mod.
If this rifle is purchased by an US or overseas buyer, I will deliver it to the exporter of their choosing for the fuel cost and assist the process in anyway I can.
1350.00 or would swap/px for older Toyota Hilux pickup in reasonable order

Hi, this is back up for sale, a fellow agreed to buy it and asked me to keep it for him for three weeks, which I did, but then he unfortunately suffered some financial down turn and couldn't complete the sale. I lost the impetus to sell it then and hung on to it, but I really need to sell it now and buy a more workaday rifle, that I can screwcut and take out in the rain.

It would be nice to see how it shoots. Out of interest not desire I should add.

Hi, Its hardly been used and shoots like a new rifle. I've never tried it in proper range conditions with bags or a bipod, but when I zeroed it off a rolled up coat on a pickup bonnet in the field in less than ideal weather conditions, it readily shot under an inch @ 100m using some old budget hollow point reloads, so would imagine that properly set up and with load development it would do much better. It still has the original factory trigger setting, which is quite heavy by modern standards. So that would need adjusting.
