    one for the collectors

    not really a sporting cartridge but i am after the gathered wisdom. my nephew has been given two old cases and is wondering what they were used in. any thoughts gratefully received.

    the case is 3.88 inches long. inside neck diameter is 0.550 inches head size .8 inches.

    any thoughts gratefully received

    That's .50 Cal. Browning (aka .50 BMG).

    Still modern, and now a rifle cartridge for husky & manly types.
    If I'm going to be accused of it then it's just as well I did it.

    No it aint. 50bmg does not have belt.

    ok thank you. do you know what i would have been used in / for. other than a 50 cal browning.

    husky manly types . im glad i went from 243 to 308 but im prepared to whimp out on using this one

    Not used in a 50 cal Browning as the cartridge has a belt, would not be very useful for the links in a machine gun do a search on the 50bmg and you will see for yourself.

    think it may be a 13.9mm , made by royal ordinance /radway green in 1942 for the .55" Boys anti-tank rifle cartridge a 13.9x99 (B) belted based on the 50 cal but a belt added as this is a magnum case

    I'm with Paul, most likely given that it is not BMG.

    had a 50 cal given lots of case's away still got lots def not a 50 bmg
