    Is case tumbling needed?

    Hi all,

im new to reloading and am trying to decide on whether or not to get a case tumbler.

Other than making the cases shiny which could be considered a cosmetic thing is there actually any value in terms of accuracy or consistency to case tumbling?

i have researched on line and some claim that there is no benefit whatsoever to accuracy, if true then why bother??

surely they were invented to aid consistency and or accuracy?

    cheers

    Atb.

If shiny cases don't bother you, and lets face it they make little to no difference, then no you don't need one.
I have never had one and find a cheap and silent ultrasonic clean is more than good enough to get my case
as clean as new, just not shiny.
Clean cases are easier to check for damage and that is about it.

however you choose to clean "clean is good" as you don't want crud in your nice resizing dies, thats one good reason alone

Absolutely agree, nothing will damage dies faster than ground in dirt forced in to them.
Which is why I de-prime with a Lee universal de-capping die and then in the ultrasonic cleaner before anything else is done.

I see, so there is a point to one apart from just cosmetics, that's good as i'm picking one up tomorrow.

    Cheers.
