fancy recticles

They make all these rifle scopes with fancy recticles that clutter the view, how many of us actually use the aiming points, I do at 1000yds but dont bother any other time,Ive got mil dots, illuminated recticles yes, great idea

Am a bit of a luddite. I don't shoot at long distance and therefore they have no value for me. Each to his own but for normal stalking in the Uk I would have thought not really necessary.

If you could self calibrate a series of small mill dots or secondary crosshairs that corresponded 100% with the rifle/calibre POI in question I can see the point.

I've got the BR reticule on my Swaro, and know that the first 3 lines/blobs are 100, 160 & 210 yds...

Anything in between is then judgement, but it's a great starting point for me.

On my 6x42 S&B on the .270, the point where the vertical and horizonal lines meet in the middle is 100, 160 & 210 yds - much simpler!
:)

leupold do a custom turrets which they calibrate via fps your cartridge is doing and they are very good apparently.

Hi fart, them aiming points are pretty useless when most cals will shoot out to 200yds with poi 1.5 inches high at 100yds, atb swaro

I only use my mildots at 1000yds for windage mainly so I know how many moa I need to adjust, when somewhere handy i do the odf click to fine tune, if the mildots are used properly you are ment to be able to use them as range finders.

Blimey. FAR too complicated for me, which is why I use a rangefinder!!!

I too zero cock on at 100yds, check my drops out 300yds then compare with ballistic dats then calculate my drops out to 800yds ish, try at 400 and 500yds to see how close they are, target turrets are great with all the correct info, dial in the yardage and bang the crows

over at 500yds plus.

Quite a talent being able to convert metric to imperial on the fly, i cant do it myself, i stick with mils when milling. All my scopes are metric/metric.

This is on the butt as well to give me layovers when stalking:

This is print out for range: -600 is my own work as yet to get onto Stickledown with this scope:

I have converted MOA to clicks on my Swaro scope - pain in the *rse, but I need to do it the hard way

I have a Zeiss with the 1000 Rapid reticule, they have their ballistic calculator online. Input bullet make, type, velocity etc it does the rest, then formulates a reticule with all your distances marked up to your graduates. Seems to be pretty good.

Ha ha
ahead just thinking the same thing!
MPBR is more relevant to me

you don't have time to range find a roe in a ride but I know what less than 250 yds is.
on the hill I can always (usually) get within 250yds

after that drop is not the main issue.....wind is

Had a Christmas tree ret and can honestly say I never used it

On my .22LR I have a Hawke MAP6, and I find the multiple aim points really good, and not at all complicated. Zeroed at 50 yards, I've also got a spot for 65, 80, 100 and 110 yards. And it's accurate too. Well worth having on the .22 as the trajectory is so curvy.
However, the scope on my .243 has got lots of gradations and spots cluttering up the view, and I haven't got a clue what they all mean!

there is nothing clever gar, ive got all conversions wrote down on my ammo boxes in black marker pen, ie center of mildot to center of next mildot, center to edge of mildot, edge to edge of dot and the width of the dot itself and there click values, measure from where I aimed to the marker and adjust simples

This is on the butt is stuck on the stock amd the other is well to givpaperslayovers when stalking:

I too have yardage and clicks wrote down, one thats stuck to the stock and the other is on white paper bold numbers wrapped in celotape to waterproof kept under comb raiser for when lights fading and easier to read

I thought this thread would of had a bigger response, maybe alot do know how too use their fancy scopes properly, yeah right
