    Tikka T3.......Part2!!

Very pleased with T3 in .243. I have a loan of a Heym in .207 to see how I get on with that calibre for Reds. My mate hardly uses it because of the kick. I find it ok. However, have always had a notion for the .308.....what's the general view?........ .207 or .308???

Hi....typo' error in original thread.....should have been .270!

I think he meant " I have the loan of ......" not being legal unless you have that rifle on your certificate.

Hi....to avoid confusion.....I have the loan of a Heym .270 and it is on my certificate. I am happy with the .270 but want opinion on the merit of the .308. Thanks.

I'd toss a coin if I were you.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

........And to avoid confusion, I was just being clever about the unusual calibre in the original post (.207), not querying the loan arrangements; please forgive my quirky sense of humour !

As to the merits of .308 against .270. I part-exchanged my Parker-Hale .270 for a Tikka Hunter in .308, and have never regretted it. Meat damage is a great deal less, with a typical exit wound of around 1.5". Of course it could just be that my shot placement has improved, - well it has, but I've seen other people's deer shot with a .308 and invariably there's been a much neater exit hole. - Makes a difference especially on the occasional Roe !

The bang and kick of the .308 is a bit less dramatic than the .270. Some would take that as a plus, others as a minus !
