well as above... i have a browning 410, and i had the choke tube crack in half, and ive got one bit out but there is still a bit in the barrel, does any one know a way to get it out? i was wondering weather a spot of weld on the peice of tube so i could turn it out with a screwdriver... but before i do that does any one know a better way? or a gunsmith who could do it near the borders and how much would it cost? cheers charlie

From your description I take it that the threaded portion of the choke has come adrift and the parallel portion is suck in the bore?

If so, I might have a helpful suggestion.

its on the browning invector chokes, for a 410, its the non threaded bit what is out, and the bottom threaded bit is still in the bore, and and suggestions will be greatly welcome,

Sorry, I wrote my first response exactly wrong!

A lot depends on why the choke tube broke. Is it seized in place by rust?

What type of gun is it (break-barrel or semi-auto)?

faulty choke, so browning think, but they wont cover it, as they cant be sure, i put in in finger tight then give it a little turn tith the head of a cart case, then shot a 100 bird clay comp with it. got home to clean it went to take the chokes out and only half come out. bottom barrel came out fine. and it is a over and under 28" barrel

Simple way first, load it up with barrel cleaner so that any powder debris around it is soaked and will loosen up - then jag with a 4x2 wrapped round it as tight as you can up the barrel from the breach end until it is in the choke and then turn it in the direction of the thread to undo it (depending on your cleaning rod you may need to do this from the the muzzle end as it could undo your jag instead).

if you have a tapered choke key you can gently warm the barrel in an oven and use the choke key but if you are not confident doing this then take it to a specialist.....

as above or if that fails Nigel Teague

Stick it in the freezer overnight then when it is good and frosty hold it by the breech up and pour boling water down the OUTSIDE. It may just be enough to expand the barrels over a still contracted choke and you may get better leverage.

Repeated heating in a bath of very hot bolied water followed by dipping the end of the barrel into a bowl of iced water may also work. Threaded junctions if the expand and contract at different rates often unscrewing themselves. Famous law case about just that "the co-efficient of the expansion of brass". See Alfred Arthur Rouse.

Another route may be to hang the last inch of barrel so that it touches something that causes it to vibrate. Like the side of a vibratory tumbler, fish tank air pump, etc., as again that vibration may work. If not penetrating disassembly "oil" from a specialist engineering firm works well.

But don't use flame OR AN OVEN as you will un-solder any top rid or side rib union!!!

well the half of the choke is out... thank god, after a lot of sweat, swearing, and head scratching... but new chokes are fitted, and clay comp won, so am all good now, after being told by a local gun shop I would need new barrels as it is impossible to get out....

but thanks guys for the tips and advice, it was all very much appreciated

cheers charlie
