Thread: New rebarreled 6.5-06

    New rebarreled 6.5-06

My rebarreled Remington 700BDL 6.5-06 came back from the engraver yesterday (I had the caliber engraved on the side of the barrel). But it still needs to be blued as the barrels carbon steel .
My gunsmith buddy's not going to blue next wednesday as it's the day before Thanksgiving and he's got turkeys to smoke !
So it'll get blued the following week I hope !
I checked some of the remaining loads I had for my previouse 6.5-06 and they chamber in the new gun just fine but then they were both cut with the same chamber reamer .
Might see if I can get some trial loads finished using the Hornady 129 SST next week some time !
    It's looking like IMR4350 , IMR4831 , H4831 , RL-19 , RL-22 and possibly Western Hunter will be the powders of choice .

Everything I have left from the other rifle was loaded with H4831SC .

My 6.5 06 may have a tighter chamber than yours but 48.2grs of n160 and 142gr smk 30 fow off is awesome at 1000yds, hunting ammo ive tried isb120gr nos bal tip over 51.5grs of imr 4350 shot cloverleaf at 100yds,the 142gr smks too shot well at 1000yds with imr 4350,46grs I think, keep me updated

Good call on the engraving. It seems our proof houses are etching the marks on now and frankly it's useless. Unlike engraving or their old stamping method the etching is so light and faint a sparrow farting near by is enough to make it illegible.

    I have a bunch of Hornady 140 SST's and Nosler 140 BT's I may try if I can't get the 129 SST , 130 AB or 130 VLD to shoot .
I don't have any VV N-160 but I am going to one of our distributers December 4th so I might get a pound for kicks and giggles !

I'm kinda keeping my eyes open now for a used in need of TLC Remington 700 BDL short action rifle I can make a donor out of and change to 260 REM or 6.5 Creedmoor . I miss my old Remington Model 7 that was chambered for the 260 REM cartridge !

It will really make my season if I can plow a deer with this rifle by January 4th the last day of our season in Virginia !

I have a Leupold Vari XIII 4.5-14x40mm AO scope on top my 257 Roberts I'm all prepared to pull off and put on this rifle once the blueing if done !

Actually I may put a Vari XIII 6.5-20x40mm AO on first to work up loads and then switch to the 4.5-14 after .

Well my gunsmith buddy dropped my barreled action over in the blue tank last wednesday !

Low and behold the Shilen barrel wasn't taking the blue !

Turned ot I have a Shilen barrels thats maked carbon steel but in reality it's stainless !

So we bead blasted the barrel and it actually looks pretty decent I think .

And no I have not shot it yet .

Sorry the pics aren't the greatest .

Thats a older Leupold Vari XIII 6.5-20AO 40mm with atarget dot I use for working up loads .
