    Roe deer breast bone deformity

FYI - Deformity in breast bone in a young roe deer, ribs appear to have been broken and fused into the shape you see. There is significant growth of muscle tissue over the would indicating it has possibly lived with the injury for some time although the "fused" ribs were not exactly well bonded. I recon it was last years calf given teeth and shape, the deer was acting perfectly normal before being shot but once hung in the larder (my shed) was approximately 20% smaller than the typical roe from that area.

    Any thoughts?

I'd say you are right Ali, broken then fused, I saw the same thing but convex rather than concave in a roe sternum that had quite a visible lump.
