I have a .22-250 which is spot on but .223 won't be far behind. I'd imagine for that money you'd be able to grab a s/h tikka t3 and a decent s/h German scope or even a new Hungarian s&b. only thing with .22-250 is you really can't shorten that barrel which means with the mod on it's pretty long. I had a .243 with a 16" barrel that was perfect length for in and out of windows.

Alis how did you find the 243 with a short barrell. How does it compare to the 22-250 in terms of performance and handling

I have .204 and .22-250. They're both superb, but if I had to pick one for foxing, it'd be the .204.

It was fine, taking the 6 & a bit inches of did not affect accuracy, if it did you couldn't tell. I was using 100gr soft points so it is much harder hitting than the 55gn SP out of the .22-250.

i don't have it any more, instead now I have a .270 and the .22-250 as a light round to compliment this - I got sucked up into the need and want for the bigger and better! And truth be told wish I just stuck with the .243,
    would have saved me .
