Success: The hunt for the lesser spotted West Country Cerakoter

For some time there have been rumours of a Cerakoter nesting in the West Country.

Adamant and I decided to have a concerted effort to confirm or deny rumours and I am happy to report we have just come back from a successful tracking expedition, finding a newly active roost in our home county of Herefordshire.

Pictures of the little fella's work to follow.......

Where, where, where? Or I will scream and scream until I am sick!!!!

I was told who it was last week by someone who is thinking that his "firm" may possibly be putting some business their way but I have forgotten already who they are. When I see the guy again I will ask for you.

fibrewad that's definitely not the company that was hinted at.

The firm are called Tactical Coatings and are based just outside Hereford. They are 'Official', approved trained Cerakote and Hydrographics applicators. They are not an open shop - by appointment only, as they do some rather specialist applications.

Covert dildos..............

You've given the game away now Eric. Well at least you've just saved me an email to the guy who mentioned them to me.

So here's my ongoing project in it's new livery. Chris and Jay at TC were keen to get a good match of colour for the rifle and recommended picking the grey out of the laminate to blend. I'm absolutely delighted with the attention to detail they have given. For those that know the GRS stocks, the LoP and Comb adjusters are chromed, and so stand out, so they've stripped these back and coated in the same colour to blend it in. Barrel, action and bolt are done and my after market thread cap once stainless, is now all but invisible. Small blemishes on the barrel were polished back before coating and are now no more. The bolt is now much tighter and slicker and will get better as the Cerakote polishes.

I'm delighted and very impressed with the quality of work.

Are they Cerakote trained and approved? What's their costing and turn around time?

As per my previous, yes they are. They spent some time in the US at HQ earlier in the year to get the accreditation. Costings seem very reasonable - turnaround will clearly depend on workload and what you want done. I would imagine 3-5 days including all transfers etc is not out of the question. If a rifle is stripped and ready to be prepped, no reason why it couldn't be done in a day if prearranged and you were present. Lead time is probably around a fortnight from what I can glean. You would need to contact them directly for more precise information.

e-mail address is : info@tacticalcoatings.co.uk

I also have a shotgun being done and another rifle cerakoted in a more traditional gloss/satin blued finish, so it's not taking away from the traditional look. You can also get things clear cerakoted.

T3?! (How do you spell a spitting noise?!) They are fine rifles for what they are, but as you say not quite like the previous generation. The origins of this rifle are a 595. If I remember correctly it's a TET rail.

I'll stick with Jager SA. He's been doing it for years and I doubt anyone will beat his prices! He also does RFD transfer so distance is no object. He also has a portfolio of some wicked patterns which are a bit more specialist than plain coatings.;)

MS - I think we can both quite easily agree this post wasn't really aimed at people of your geographic disposition - hence the title of the post - but I am sorry if I have offended you somehow.

There is no doubting Jamie's skills and experience - and when I lived on that side of the country, he was my provider of choice. To be clear, I am not claiming anyone is better than another - merely providing an alternate supplier that may be more convenient to some from a geographic perspective. Price is of course an obvious differentiator and a good leveller when people wish to purchase a service.

On patterns - you raise a valid point as for sure there are a number of very clever things that can be done with coatings. I can only assure you that this company has some very interesting experiences in coatings and coatings patterns and are able to provide an equivalent portfolio for customers to choose from - as well as providing a more bespoke service if required. I wanted something a little less tactical than some of the patterns that can be created for this particular project - but the shotgun being done is more down that line.
