    204 ruger or 223

Hi All, toying with the idea of a new varmint rifle either in 204 ruger or 223, tikka t3, for foxing but also some target shooting, has anyone got a 204 ruger in this make and model and how does it perform out to 200-250? replies most welcome

The two rounds aren't really comparable, the 204 is much faster, flatter, and cuts the wind better than a 22/250, never mind a 223.

Mine is a rebarreled Sako S491, it is a fantastic tool.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you......

Out to those kind of ranges your not really going to see any differenc in the two. 223 has a much better bullet choice. 12 twist will let you shoot 40s upto 63 grain bullets.

I have a custom .204. Rabbits, crows and small targets (never mind fox size targets) are so easy at your named ranges.
A .223 would work well out to these ranges as well, just not as good as the .204 in terms of flat shooting and wind bucking abilitys.
The .223 does have a better selection of bullets from light to heavy, but the .204 will still trump it every time out to the ranges you want to shoot.
I was thinking about a fast twist .223 a while ago to shoot the 75 grain amaxs, past 500 yards these would buck the wind better due to their higher Bc bullet. But looking at the trajectory from them bullets out of a .223 they are worse then a .22Lr! So I never bothered in the end.

My mate has/had a fast twist .223, he swore by it, we had a few debates about the two calibers ourselves. He bought a Cooper .20Tac, the .223 has never been out the gun safe since, last I heared he was selling it.

get a .204 mate you will be impressed.

Got myself a 204 t3 super varmint in June last year. Had to wait 6 months for it as it was a special order. But it was well worth the wait cracking round. I also home load, didn't want the the rounds to hot so I'm only running them at about 3600-3700. Zero at 100 it's -1.13 at 200 and -3.12 at 250
    cheers gaz

Why is the .204 round so flat and have such an edge over the .223?

Simply due To the .204 launching higher BC bullets at much greater speeds.

I have never seen a .204 round I would like to see one after seeing this thread, Does it have quite a large cartridge then but with a small bullet? Interesting calibre sounds very effective

Its a .222 Magnum cartridge. Larger then .222Rem and the .223Rem. It is then necked down to .20 cal. The .20 cal bullets tend to have a higher BC For their weight, thus comnined with dast speeds They are awsome. Devestating on stuff it hits.

Have a look on you tube, type in 247 sniper. I have a couple of videos from a few years ago shooting a 4 inch gong at 450 yards 5 out of 5 with no problem at all.
