    Rimfire Barrel Chop

Very interesting article in sporting shooter this month.
Basically a 10 inch barrel chop on a 17 HMR changed the muzzle velocity from 2527 fps to 2405 fps.
The rifle didn't look that good but very handy tool to pop in your pocket when you are out and about.

I've got a Browning A bolt with 21" barrel which I was going to chop to 16" but I'm tempted to go to 12/13 now.

Works great with subsonics but not tried HV's...

My CZ .22LR got the chop to 14", to be honest, handling wise, it's perfect. You'd gain nothing by losing any more and it leaves scope for rethreading crowning should anything happen to the current crown/thread.

Can't be right, when I bought my 1517 hmr with the 14 inch barrel all the experts told me it would be worthless
and be subsonic at 100 yards.

Maybe they were armchair experts like 90% ish of experts!!!!
When I hack off the A Bolt barrel I will do 2" at a time and check velocity as I go. At least that way you know the results rather than relying on all these so called experts

    A-Bolt - you don't mean T-Bolt do you???
It's the calibre of the shooter that counts not the calibre of the rifle.

    No A Bolt is correct.
T Bolt is that funny straight pull thing. Mine is a rare A Bolt Medallion with lovely wood and engraved action. It is a sweet little rifle but the barrel is to long especially with a mod on.
